Check In At Bethany With Pastor Bill-February 14, 2021
Hello everyone, thanks for reading the Check In at Bethany
We have a lot of wonderful things happening and will be starting to happen this week.
First of all, Sunday, February 14, 2021 (Valentine’s Day-hint), is the last day of the Season of Epiphany. I will be preaching on “The Cross”. What’s the big deal about the cross? Why is it so important for the Christian faith? It is so violent, so gruesome, so ugly. I thought faith was supposed to lift us up, bring positive thoughts, not the downer of a cross and crucifixion.
Why can’t we have a cheery symbol for our faith?
In my sermon this Sunday, I am inviting us to look at why the cross is so important to the Christian faith, and specifically to your faith. Together, we are going to examine some scriptures as to the significance to the cross. It’s more than just a shiny piece of jewelry. We are going to learn about the power of the cross and how vital it is to the Christian faith.
On Saturday, February 27 at 1pm, we will hold a celebration of life for Norma Bull at Bethany. We will observe COVID precautions. The service will be ZOOMED and recorded.
We need some volunteers to help with the service as ushers, if you are available, please contact the church at bethany21811@gmail.com.
Bring Your Egg Cartons to Church-starting this Sunday, we will be collecting egg cartons for Salisbury Urban Ministries. They have been given eggs without cartons, and need the cartons to keep them secure. There will be a receptacle in front of the kitchen for them.
Wednesday, February 17, at 7pm, is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the church season of Lent. You will find more information about Lent, Ash Wednesday, and other special services in Lent on my blog on the Bethany web site.
Lent devotional packets have been made available to all who want them. If you have not received one and would like to, please contact us as bethany21811@gmail.com, and give us your name and address and indicate you would like a Lenten Devotional Packet. We will be glad to send you one. Best part about it, it’s free.
On Wednesday, February 17 at 6:30, Family Fellowship meets in the Fellowship Hall.
On Thursday, February 18, at 10 am Prayer Group will meet by ZOOM.
On Thursday, February 18, at 11am and 7pm, we will begin our Lenten study, “Seven Words,” by Susan Robb. It’s not too late to sign up. Details are on our website, bethanyberlin.org, under Pastor’s Blog.
My scripture for you today is: 1 Corinthians 1:18
“18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
God bless
